On the day she was abducted, thirty-two year-old Annie Sullivan had three goals – sell a house, forget a recent argument with her mother, and be on time for dinner with her ever-patient boyfriend. Then a van pulls up outside the house she is selling. Annie thinks it’s her lucky day. But nothing could be further from the truth…
Annie wakes to find herself in a remote mountain location with only her kidnapper, «The Freak», for company. Subjected to his sadistic treatment for over a year Annie eventually escapes, but begins to suspect that someone in her former life wanted her gone – and isn’t pleased she’s back.
‘Stevens skilfully juxtapositions the back story of Annie’s captivity, with the front story of a woman desperately trying to reclaim her old life. As with all great suspense novels, the surprises abound. Annie thought she’d survived the worst with The Freak. But has she?’ Lisa Gardner
